This mashup of the Cats trailer with the music from Jordan Peele’s Us is too good

Keeley Ryan

In case you somehow missed it, the trailer for Cats was released this week to…well, a fairly mixed reaction.

Some people loved it. Some people hated it. Some people found that the soundtrack to a horror film fit better over the footage.

Yes, that’s right: less than 24 hours after it was released, the Cats trailer has already been given a ‘reboot’ of sorts – this time, with the music from Jordan Peele’s Us.

And with the ‘Tethered Remix’ of Luniz’s I’ve Got 5 On It playing on top of the footage, Cats looks like an entirely different (and much, much creepier) film.

The video was shared on Twitter by comedian Ian Abramson, who said he reckoned the song “fits better” – and we definitely agree.

The tweet soon went viral, getting more than 19,000 retweets and 67,000 likes at the time of writing.

Even the director of Us, Jordan Peele, weighed in on the mashup.

The Cats movie is due to hit cinemas in Ireland on December 20.

It follows a tribe of cats, who must decide yearly which one will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life.

One of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway history, the stage musical Cats received its world premiere at the New London Theatre in 1981, where it played for 21 years and earned the Olivier and Evening Standard Awards for Best Musical.

In 1983, the Broadway production became the recipient of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and ran for an extraordinary 18 years.

Since opening in London in 1981, Cats has continuously appeared on stage around the globe, to date having played to 81 million people in more than fifty countries and in nineteen languages. It is one of the most successful musicals of all time.
