The show's creator accused the storyline as being a 'betrayal' to viewers/

They’re the love story that divides fans and followers of Sex and The City.

Carrie and Big were a tumultuous love-affair that often left our leading lady with a broken heart and in need of some deep and meaningfuls with her girlfriends.

Last month, Sex and the City creator Darren Star said he believed Carrie Bradshaw’s marriage to Mr.Big was a “betrayal” of the show’s original values.

Star added that show’s ending, which saw the women ending with their respective partners, “betrayed what it was about, which was that women don’t ultimately find happiness from marriage”.

While some fans might not agree with the sentiment, Sarah Jessica Parker wasn’t shy of offering her feedback on the comments.

Speaking to Yahoo! Style, SJP strongly disagreed with the show’s creator:

“As I recall, the way Carrie and Big married was something she wanted.

“Rather than Carrie feeling that life was slipping away and she best settle quickly. I don’t think of it as someone diminishing herself by letting a man marry her – it always felt that she had arrived at that on her own.”

While she doesn’t agree with Star’s comments, she does say that the complexity of emotions, and the way lives change naturally, is one of the reasons everyone enjoys the show:

“The beauty is we can all have lots and lots of opinions about lots of choices Carrie made, that we object to, or that we stand by.

“If that’s Darren’s feeling, I think it’s interesting.”
