Well, last night’s Love Island was a bit much, wasn’t it?

Sarah McKenna Barry

I honestly don’t know where to begin.

After an explosive post-Casa Amor recoupling earlier this week, we knew that the shit was bound to hit the fan at some point, but I don’t think any Love Island viewer could have anticipated the sheer chaos that was Friday night’s episode.

The show kicked off with Paige attempting to process Jacques’ betrayal, and she firmly stood her ground. After highlighting the fact that he never actually said the words “I’m sorry”, Jacques became the first man of the season to sleep in the dog house.

Fans were also less than impressed with Dami, as he consoled Paige, despite being a key figure in encouraging Jacques to crack on with other girls. However, he at least seemed to see the error of his ways once Paige told him that apart from sharing a bed and recoupling with Deji, Indiyah mostly stayed loyal to Dami while she was away.

Next on the roster was Jay. Now, we kind of had high hopes for Jay. As a single man, he didn’t betray anyone by getting to know the new ladies, and when he came back with Chyna, we were rooting for them. Those hopes have since been dashed, after he firmly friend-zoned her. On Twitter, some fans thought the reason he ended things was to get closer to Paige, but that remains to be seen.

Luca, meanwhile, also let us down a bit. While he slept on the day bed in Gemma’s absence (like an absolute martyr), I was disappointed to see how jealous he became after Billy talked (!) to Gemma. Thankfully, Gemma was having none of this, and wouldn’t indulge Luca’s concerns for a second.

Of course, the main drama of last night’s episode surrounded Andrew, Tasha and Coco. Andrew got the ball rolling by friend-zoning Coco, before attempting to hash things out with Tasha. What ensued was a series of back and forth conversations, before Coco set fire to the rain by letting Tasha know exactly what Andrew got up to while he was away (anger-induced tit-sucking, for what it’s worth).

Naturally, this didn’t go down well at all, and in the explosive fallout, Tasha rightly pointed out the double standards that have long been festering in the villa. However, the lads undermined her by cracking jokes and laughing while she was upset, before the episode ended and we were told to vote for our favourite couple.

Indeed, we truly have our work cut out for us.

Despite the chaos, there were some positive moments in the episode. As an Ekin-Su stan, I was delighted (though not at all surprised) to see her comfort Coco and hype her up while she was upset, and it was also great to see the girls of the villa come together, and acknowledge that Andrew was in the wrong, rather than blaming each other.

So, the question remains. Will things cool over? Is there any hope for Tasha and Andrew? Will Paige forgive Jacques if he ever actually apologises? We’ll simply have to tune in tomorrow to find out.

Love Island continues tomorrow night at 9pm on Virgin Media Two and on the Virgin Media Player.
