Ladies, this is your day.
It’s a pretty big week in the horse calendar, so much so that they’ve almost forgotten the time that some of their friends were accidentally included in beef items back in the winter of 2013.
Grievances aside, horses are getting dolled up to the tens for their special couple of days at the Galway Races and we need to acknowledge their efforts.
Let’s take a look at the beautiful ladies hoping to take first prize at this year’s Galway Races…
Sonia
Sonia (32) is an accountant from Templemore. This is her first time attending the Galway Races and she said she’s honoured to be included in our best dressed list. She went with a simple green overcoat this year, paired with a Batman-inspired hat to keep her ears back. (Sonia’s very self-conscious about her ears and has considered getting them pinned). She’s teamed this exquisite outfit with a neutral foundation and highlighter, along with a slight bit of eyeliner.
Jane
Jane (19) is a journalism student in DCU, but her heart lies in fashion. For the big day out, she’s put a padded navy seat on and tied the outfit together by adding some casual navy ankle warmers with a white trim. Her hair has a wavy finish, as she’s not a fan of the overly-perfected look. Barefoot is all the rage with Jane, as she shuns societal norms that dictate how she should present her feet to the world. You go girl!
Lucy
Lucy (29) is a hairdresser from Navan. She went bold at this year’s Galway Races, and said that she was going to win best dressed if it killed her. As a result, Lucy was completely nude apart from her lilac reins, because she wanted the emphasis to be on her hair, which reportedly took six hours to perfect! To achieve a flawless curl, Lucy recommends getting as much volume as possible, EVEN IF IT KILLS YOU. Yikes.
Sinéad
Sinéad (22) is a professional look-alike. We’re not going to tell you who she looks like because, well, it’s pretty obvious. Her stunning outfit consists solely of distressed auburn leg warmers, a very bold statement indeed. Sinéad’s hair was the mane source of envy for many ladies at this year’s Galway Races, and she cites Nicola from Fair City as her inspiration.
Claire
Claire (26) is a fashion design student at Griffith College Dublin and those fees have certainly gone to good use as we can see here. Pictured above with her boyfriend Peter, Claire made the entire outfit herself. She used recycled material from an old blanket to fashion the cape, then detailed it with leftover buckles from an old handbag. Claire is hotly tipped to win first place at Ladies Day, but we’ll have to wait and see who comes out on top. We wish all these girls the best of luck.
