We’re a nation of tea drinkers here in Ireland, but it seems like Mariah Carey has raised tea sales in the US after her New Years Eve performance.
After appearing on stage for her gig, she stopped and told the crowd that she wanted “hot tea” and since she wasn’t given any, she would “rough it” like the rest of them.
“They told me there would be tea. Oh, it’s a disaster. Okay, well, we’ll just have to rough it. I’m going to be like everybody else, with no hot tea,” she said.

Well, since then (and since becoming 2018’s first meme), tea sales, as well as afternoon tea offerings have soared.
New York hotels such as The Whitby Hotel, The Peninsula Hotel, The Pierre, The Plaza and the Taj Hotel have seen thousands more customers come through their doors for afternoon tea, which costs upwards of €40 per person.
The Plaza’s executive chef, Sani Hebaj said:“We’re not sure if we have Mariah to thank for that, but we’ve loved working with her in the past and look forward to welcoming her back for a cup of tea soon.”
Pffft, you know you have Mariah to thank for that Sani.
