Celebrity designer Stella McCartney has been criticised for comments in which she claimed that strong women are “not terrible attractive”.

McCartney was being interviewed about her Spring/Summer 2014 collection when she explained that the garments celebrated the “fragility” of women and allowed them to have more “softness”.

She continued to add that “strength on its own in a woman is quite aggressive and not terribly attractive all the time”, leading to an immediate backlash online.

Vagenda Magazine immediately hit back on Twitter, saying “I imagine the women who can afford to buy her clothes didn’t get there being timid”, while author Ellie Levenson said that “it is particularly galling when a woman who has benefited from feminism and being strong then tries to pull the carpet from other women”.
