“I was absolutely spitting feathers.”

The 1975’s Matt Healy once got stick in school because his mam used to do furniture ads.

Denise Welch said today that her son, who has garnered his own substantial amount of fame due to his presence in his wildly successful pop band, used to defend her against questionable press.

She told Loose Women that although she made a “few mistakes” over the years, she was surprised to learn that her sons were also privy to the headlines.

“The press gave me a hard time over the years, some deserved, some not so deserved,” she said.

“I lived quite naively thinking that nobody was saying anything to Matt at school and of course they were, he just wasn’t telling me.

“I used to be the front figure of a furniture commercial and I had this campaign for a few years and it paid me a few bob and thank you very much.”

She said that one of her son’s teachers once criticised Denise for doing the advert, suggesting that she must have “fallen on hard times.”

“Can you imagine if he’d come home and told me that? I was absolutely spitting feathers,” she said.

“He completely stuck up for me.

“And friends told me later on that he’d been absolutely passionate in his fervour of sticking up for me, when we were getting a bit of bad press about the marriage break up and stuff.”

A good boy, true and true.

Matt and The 1975 lit up Stradbally with their incredible set during last month’s Electric Picnic.

The singer also recently split up with his girlfriend of four years, Gabriella Brooks.

Apparently, there had been a “strain” on their relationship.
