“At Times It Seems Absolutely Overwhelming and I Spiral To A Dark Place” – Leona Lewis Opens Up

In what appears to be an open letter to her fans tweeted today, Leona Lewis put her heart on her sleeve as she talked about what she describes as an "emotional rollercoaster" of a year. The X-Factor winner revealed that her relationship with record label Syco was one filled with many highs and lows. She also admitted that it wasn't long before the bad began to overshadow the good. "It has been quite the rollercoaster year. Some points I felt extremely depressed and other times experienced amazing highs," the singer states in the letter which was posted on her Twitter account today.

"But it got to a place where the downs were outweighing the ups. So I'm writing this letter for anyone who has ever felt the same way." The letter continued: "Someone told me that worrying is like always standing under an umbrella in case it rains. You never get to stand in the sun." "I worry too much. I worry about friends and family, about being far away… I worry about the future, work, how I look, the images of horror on the news, the way humans hurt humans, animals, the environment," she continued. "At times it seems absolutely overwhelming and I spiral to a dark place." The letter moves on to talk about her up-and-down relationship with Syco and how the relationship was "no longer right". "I began to find that sitting quietly and meditating helped still the madness." "One of the major changes was taking the huge step away from Syco. Like most relationships we had our good times and our bad. After several years I thought about leaving over and over again. I was terrified of walking away from a somewhat secure relationship even though I knew that we were no longer right for each other. However, I clung to the safety net I had grown so attached to." "For my fifth album I was asked to make a record that would not have been true to myself...I cannot make music that does not speak to my soul and as scary as it seemed, I could no longer compromise myself and so I decided to leave." Speaking out about the fallout from her decision she added, "I was threatened with the fact that if I left it would come out that I had been dropped. That cut deep, but by this time nothing could stop me from walking away." As the letter draws to a close, Leona added her appreciation to her fans. "It (change) can turn your world upside down and you can either sink or swim. I chose to swim." "I chose to go through it and honestly I’m not sure where I’ll end up but one thing I can be certain of is that I’ve stayed true to myself.." "So whatever the future may bring, I am ready. To know you are on this journey with me is so comforting." Fans reacted immediately to the letter which was tweeted this afternoon, offering messages of support to the singer.
