The Libertines reunited onstage at London’s Hyde Park last night and the event didn’t go without its hiccups.

Pete Doherty and Carl Barat, who parted ways back in 2010, were forced to halt performances twice at the British Summer Time Festival due to chaos in the crowd.

The infamous indie rockers had just begun their second song, ‘Boys in the Band’, when they were forced to stop and ask fans to spread out following a surge of people making their way towards the stage after the band had opened.

“We can’t carry on if you don’t calm down a bit,” Doherty shouted from the stage.

After resuming the performance it was halted once more when fireworks erupting in the crowd.

Medical and security staff rushed to treat folk who had gotten crushed against the security barrier at the front.

While things quietened down Doherty took the place of drummer, Gary Powell, and treated the audience to an impromptu rendition of ‘Seven Nation Army’ from the White Stripes followed by the Foundations’ ‘Build Me Up Buttercup’.

There we were thinking we couldn’t love the Libertines anymore… the band finished up their set to the crowd of 60,000 with a sing-along to Hokey Cokey.

During their set Doherty and Barat announced two more London dates in September. We remain hopeful the lads will pay us a visit before the year is out.

The band played 24 hits in total and Doherty paid tribute to Smiths legendary guitarist, Johnny Marr and Belfast man Gerry Conlon, one of the ‘Guilford Four’ wrongly imprisoned for an IRA bombing in 1974, who sadly passed away last month.

Tickets for The Libertines’ shows at Alexandra Palace, London in September 27 and 28th go on sale this Monday.
