Her

Mac Burke, or Fair City favourite Damien Halpin, takes to the stage of the Smock Alley this October for a lead role in ‘Joe Prop’.

Centred around 12-year old Joe Kavanagh from Gorey, Co. Wexford, Joe dreams of playing front prop for Ireland. The story takes a look at the young boy’s hopes to make it big, while tackling the issues of bullying amongst kids, particularly cyber bulling.

The play focuses on how a childhood illness and subsequent medication has left  “Joe” overweight and a target for school bullies.

Inspired by Mac’s own childhood experience of bullying, playwright Gemma Doorly (Sarah O’Leary from Fair City) and directed by Karl Shiels, all proceeds from the opening night and 10% of all sales from the nationwide tour will be donated to Barnardos children’s charity.

For a taster of what to expect, watch Mac in action ahead of opening night on October 27th.

‘Joe Prop’ runs at Smock Alley Theatre from 27th October – 1st November with an additional run at the Axis Theatre, Ballymun from 10th – 12th December.  Tickets are €15 and are on sale from Smock Alley Theatre here.
