Well, we think they’d want to for the millions they’re on, but can it be taken too far?

Natalie Portman took to the ballerina lifestyle months before her ‘Black Swan’ role and Renee Zellweger sacrificed her figure and piled on the pounds for her ‘Bridget Jones Diary’ debut.

But it seems as personal hygiene goes, Russell Crowe may have taken it a step too far. The Australian is refusing to wash on the set of his new movie. Many a crew member has handed the actor a loofa and a bar of soap to quench the smell but the actor is refusing flat-out to wash.

The Oscar-winning star is playing the title role in Darren Aronofky’s new movie ‘Noah’, and sources say he is shunning many of the modern world’s inventions for the few weeks filming to get into character from the biblical times.

This, however, includes not showering or using deodorant, which has, understandably, not gone down well with the other members of the cast and crew.

Apparently, Crowe experimented with abandoning his personal hygiene on the set of ‘Gladiator’ as well, but this time he is taking it to the extreme.

A source told National Enquirer magazine; "He's been experimenting with skipping showers, which is something he did on 'Gladiator' as well, to get an appropriately gritty look.

"He has to look like a very old, very weather man for this movie but you don't want to be inhaling when he walks past. He reeks!"

Russell has also gained 15lbs for the role but sources say it is not helping his personal hygiene.

The insider added; "All of this is combining to make a pot pourri of foulness, and everyone is counting down the days until the project is done!"

Ooo-er, Russell, wash yourself!
