#HerHangover There’ll Be Days Like This – Ten Irish Tunes To Get You Through The Fear

Don't say we're not good to you!

Her

The first moments when you wake up after a bank holiday bender are blissful, simply because it takes an average of 15 seconds for you to realise that you have potentially ruined your own life in one weekend – and not a bother to you!

The memories seep through almost as quick as the Red Bull mixed with the Jägermeister in last night’s Jäger bomb, (you’re right, it would have been rude not to).

Three days on the razz has finally taken its toll and because we are such lovely (sober-ish) people here at the Her Towers, we thought it only fair to share with you our Top 10 Irish tunes that will help ease the hangover and prevent the fear… as much as possible, we sadly can’t work miracles.

1. Days Like This

Van the man knows the score. If you’re feeling a little down and troubled just remember what Van Morrison’s mother always told him, there’d be days like this… she was bang on the money like Mammy’s always are.

2. Delirium Tremens

Christy Moore may live a life of sobriety now but there was a time and a place where ol’ Christy found himself on a surfboard after 14 pints of stout. Thankfully it the Port and Brandy, the Vodka and the Stag, inspired him to write this cracker. This is the perfect number to blast if you’re a little less than your George Best.

3. Walk On

Rumour has it this song titled stemmed from Bono doing the ‘walk of shame’ in his teenage days. We might have just made that up, but if you wake up tomorrow morning in unfamiliar surroundings then just gather your belongings (the ones you’ve managed to hold on to), put on your coat (if you collected it from the cloakroom), hold your head up high and Walk On

4. The Fear

Because no list would be complete without a track titled, ‘The Fear‘. This one comes from five Tallaghtented friends (see what we did there) that go by the name, Leaders of Men.

5. Zombie

Dolores O’Riordan knows the craic. Did you wake up this morning and think that there was a good chance the life you led on Friday is now in tatters? Just remember that it’s all in your head, IN YOUUUUUURRRRRRR HEEEAAAAD, ZOMBIE. ZOMBIE. ZOMBIE.

6. Jailbreak

Boy, that escalated quickly… We just hope for your own sake that festivities didn’t get out of hand that much. We couldn’t decide on just one Thin Lizzy song and so we stuck in a medley of a few of Lynott’s greatest hits. Yes, the boys were back in town, painted it red and left. Sound.

7. Orinoco Flow  (Sail Away)

If things get really bad, you can always take Enya’s advice and sail away, sail away, sail away. At the end of the day, who can say where the road goes? Where the day flows? Only Time

7. You Can’t Judge A Book By The Cover

We’ve loved The Strypes since they were young fresh-faced young cubs gracing the stage of The Late Late Toy Show. Now look at them, handsome young men leading by example – ‘You Can’t Judge A Book By The Cover‘, which is a key point to remember when you’re waltzing home or onboard public transport the day after the night before, in the same shameful getup with mascara at your chin and your lipstick beside your ear. Attractive.

8. Don’t Like Mondays

We’re usually singing from the same hymn sheet as Bob and The Boomtown Rats but today we’re a little grateful because its one of very few Mondays where we get to lie back, relax and comfort eat without living in fear that your boss may catch you doing all three within work hours.

9. If I Should Fall from Grace with God

26 years on from its release date and this Pogues track is still a classic. It’s highly like that your fall from grace occurred at some stage over the bank holiday festivities, so just take a moment to ask yourself – What would Shane MacGowan do? The likely answer to that is round up recruits for the MNC (Monday Night Club).

10. Delicate

Did you kiss when you were alone, when nobody was watching, you might have taken it home and made out like nobody was there… It’s not that you’re scared. It’s just that it’s Delicate… This song is penned about the bank holiday Monday Damien woke up in a bed other than his own*
