“I Don’t Miss Being In The Band” – Her.ie Speaks To Girls Aloud Star Kimberley Walsh

We caught up with the singer to talk about her baby news, a Girls Aloud reunion and her plans for the future.

Kimberley Walsh rose to fame alongside Cheryl Cole, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle in successful pop group Girls Aloud.

She also reached the final of the 2012 series of Strictly Come Dancing and recently revealed that she and her partner Justin Scott are expecting their first child together.

So we thought it was about time we caught up with the singer to talk about her baby news, a Girls Aloud reunion and what she has planned for the future.

Here’s what she had to say about…

Her pregnancy news
It is very exciting. You share it with your closest family and friends but during the first three months, it’s very hard to keep it a secret because you’ve got this huge change going on inside of you and it’s like the biggest secret you’re ever going to have to keep. There has always been that sort of pressure for marriage and kids but I’ve never really taken any notice of that. It was just the right time for us and we knew it was the perfect time to have a baby and luckily it didn’t take very long, so here we are!

Being a Specsavers ambassador
I think because I’m quite a new glasses-wearer – I’ve only been wearing them for five or six years – so I kind of come at it from quite a positive angle. I’ve always thought glasses were quite fun and cool. I view them as more of a fashion accessory rather than shying away from it. I want to try to put that positive outlook out to other people and try to encourage people to create some good fashion spec looks.

Her style
I think for me, I’ve got quite strong ideas about what I like to wear and there’s never been one person that gets it right all the time but I do tend to look towards people who have a similar body shape as me such as Beyoncé, Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez. As for my maternity wardrobe, I’m trying to cling onto what I would wear anyway and make it work or have things altered to fit the bump but as time goes on, I’m going to have to rethink that. I’m very lucky that I’m coming into summer so I can wear maxi dresses and stuff like that which is easy.

A Girls Aloud reunion
It’s quite nice to have a little break from working so intensely. We obviously did that for 10 years so I miss being around the girls on a daily basis but I think it was the right time to sort of put that to bed and move onto new things. I miss the girls personally but I don’t miss being in the band. I feel like I had a good 10 years of being part of the group and I feel like we’ve fulfilled all our dreams.  There are a lot of reunions going on at the moment but we’ve only just really split up and I don’t think there’s any real desire to come back. A lot of the bands that came back didn’t feel like they fulfilled all their dreams and there’s a lot of unfinished business which we don’t have. We finished at the top and that’s how I think I’d like to leave it.

Strictly Come Dancing
I absolutely loved the show. I’m still in touch with Pasha Kovalev and Denise Van Outen is a good friend of mine. In fact myself, Denise and Kara Tointon have been working on an idea together. We’re trying to create a live show that incorporates a bit of dancing and musical theatre. We want to create something which is fun and a great girly night out but obviously with the baby, that’s become a project for 2015 rather than 2014.
