Kylie Jenner’s son’s name means ‘penis’ in Arabic – yes, really

Ellen Fitzpatrick

Oh no, Kylie.

Kylie Jenner has finally announced her son’s name, a whole year after she first revealed she was changing it from Wolf but hadn’t decided exactly what.

But now it seems the new name isn’t all it’s cracked up to be as it has a very different meaning in Arabic.

Kylie revealed her son’s name to be Aire, sharing the first snaps of his face as well (and yes, he is adorable).

But once his name was announced, many Arabic speakers have said that the phonetic spelling of his name is not what you’d expect. Basically, if you pronounce it like “air-eh”, it means penis in Arabic slang.

It wasn’t long before journalist Antoinette Lattouf tweeted: “Umm should someone tell Kylie Jenner she renamed her son Aire which is a common Arabic expression for ‘my penis’ or nah?

“Anyway, I doubt many people have noticed. After all, Arabic is only spoken by around 415 million people.”

Another person said: “Aire means penis in Arabic. Kylie what have you done?”

A third wrote: “Kylie Jenner named her son ‘AIRE’ only if she knows what the means in Arabic.”

But that’s not the only language it translates to, as one Twitter user pointed out the name has an Irish meaning too.

And popping it into Google Translate, it confirms the claim – as Gaeilge, Aire means ‘attention’.

While we doubt she’s done this on purpose, the name makes a lot of sense coming from a member of the most famous family in the world.
