The condition can be life threatening.

Love Island’s Laura Crane was rushed to the hospital earlier this week with sepsis – a condition which can be life threatening in some cases.

The 23-year-old had been sharing photos to her Instagram Stories over the last few days, indicating on Wednesday that she was going to be spending Halloween in the hospital.

A spokesperson for the pro-surfer has now confirmed that she had fallen ill earlier this week and was rushed to the hospital with sepsis.

They told The Sun

“Laura is sadly quite unwell. She was rushed in on Tuesday and they quickly diagnosed sepsis.

“It’s taking time to control her temperature and rid her blood of the infection, but it had spread quite rapidly.

“A scary time for her and her family but we’re praying she makes a full recovery in the next couple of days.”

According to the HSE, sepsis “is a common time-dependent medical emergency.” If left untreated, it can lead to tissue hypoperfusion, organ dysfunction, multi-organ failure and death.

The HSE use the word SIRS to detail the symptoms of sepsis. They include:

Slurred speech, confusion, lethargy
Increased heart rate, respiratory rate, insufficient urine
Rigors / chills
Skin pallor, mottling, abnormal capillary refill
