This year’s Oscars are just around the corner and the odds are in Ireland’s favour.

It seems like everyone and their nanny have jetted off to Los Angeles for the award ceremony this year. The Banshees of Inisherin cast and An Cailín Ciúin crew flew over to Hollywood this week, as did Normal People star Paul Mescal.

Mescal, who is only 27, has been nominated for Best Actor for his role in Aftersun. However, the Maynooth native is routing for another Irish man.

He told Screentime’s John Fardy that he wants Colin Farrell to win the Best Actor category.

He said he will be cheering The Banshees of Inisherin actor on.

“I’m flying the flag for Colin to be honest,” Mescal admitted.

He continued, “I think his performance in Banshees is just one of my favourites in quite a while so to be nominated in a category with him is like … I take great pride in that.”

Mescal’s family also flew over to Los Angeles to be with him for this monumental moment in his career.

His parents, as well as sister Nell Mescal and his brother Donnacha, will join him at the ceremony on Sunday.

Mescal has been nominated for Best Actor alongside Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin), Austin Butler (Elvis), Brendan Fraser (The Whale), and Bill Nighy (Living).
