The Oscars Have A Hilarious Way Of Cutting Out Those Long-Winded Speeches This Year

For anyone who usually sits up to watch the Oscar-winners’ collect their gongs, you may notice that some of those acceptance speeches can really drag on.

While most people spend the night rattling off a list of gratitude to producers, directors and the makers behind the pictures, this year’s ceremony plans to run a list of film credits on a scroll beneath the Oscar-winners’ acceptance speech.

The organisers hope that winners might be more likely to move on from the long-winded speeches and keep the party ticking over.

Which we’re thinking could be a genius plan, or a hilariously awkward moment when people start getting cut off by the music when they ignore the rules.

The move, which was announced during the Oscar Nominees Luncheon in Beverly Hills on Monday, will require all nominees to submit a list of who they’d like to thank in their scroll should they scoop the prize.

With the current controversy around the Oscars being dubbed a white elitist ceremony, and the upcoming presidential race in the US, the ceremony on February 28th could be set for some standout speeches with those extra minutes going spare….
