Sabrina Carpenter's next album cover has already had a makeover

Carpenter is planning on releasing her album Man's Best Friend this August, less than a year after her record-breaking album Short n' Sweet was released.

However, the singer was hit with waves of backlash after unveiling the cover for her upcoming album. In the original cover, the popstar is kneeling in front of a man who is holding the singer's hair like a leash.

Carpenter decided to release a second album cover following the immense backlash.

In the new album cover, the singer pays tribute to Marilyn Monroe.

Many fans of the singer thought the album artwork was iconic; however, Carpenter was heavily slated over the image.

One fan wrote, "Missed the perfect opportunity to create the exact same cover but reverse the roles. That would’ve fit her brand and the theme of the album much more. This just looks like an unironic image from multiple decades ago."

Some people believed the album cover was degrading, and others claimed it "set feminism back."

Another fan addd, "This cover is so disappointing. So degrading & not empowering for women. You have girls following you! Esp with the rise of male misogyny, we need icons like you to do better!!"

Others even claimed Carpenter was glamourising domestic violence by depicting a woman being mistreated by a man.

However, others pointed out that Carpenter's cover is satirical and is actually meant to portray how men "can often treat women like dogs."

Another fan wrote, "I’m seeing a lot of discourse about Sabrina Carpenter’s new album cover… for those of you who may lack critical thinking skills, the cover is clearly satirical with a deeper meaning, portraying how the public views her, believing she is just for the male gaze."

Many famous faces also defended Carpenter, including Carly Simon.

She said: "She’s not doing anything outrageous. It seems tame. There have been far flashier covers than hers.

"One of the most startling covers I’ve ever seen was [The Rolling Stones’] ‘Sticky Fingers’. That was out there in terms of sexual attitude. So I don’t know why she’s getting such flak.”

As Carpenter has said herself, the attitude towards her is often regressive

Many critics should focus on the fact that the music industry continues to celebrate people like Chris Brown rather than fretting over Carpenter's album cover.

She previously told The Sun:

“My message has always been clear — if you can’t handle a girl who is confident in her own sexuality, then don’t come to my shows.”

“It’s essentially saying that female performers should not be able to embrace their sexuality in their lyrics, in the way we dress, in the way we perform.

“It is totally regressive. It’s like those who want to shame don’t make comments when I talk about self-care or body ­positivity or heartbreak, which are all normal things a 25-year-old goes through. They just want to talk about the ­sexual side of my performances."
