Zac Efron said his chin bone was “hanging off his face”
Actor Zac Efron has shut down claims he had plastic surgery. The Disney alum was recently accused of changing his appearance, but the actor has now confirmed that it was not for vanity reasons.
Speaking to Men’s Health, The Greatest Showman star stressed that he damaged his jaw in a freak accident.
Fans believed he went under the knife, but Efron confirmed he damaged his jaw a couple of years ago.
Around four years ago, Efron shattered his jaw when he fell at home.
The actor explained that he was running through his home in just his socks when he slipped.
He then smacked his chin against the corner of a granite fountain. Efron lost consciousness and when he woke up, his chin bone was “hanging off his face”.
Efron had to undergo surgery to have his jaw repaired.
However, after taking some time away from physical therapy, Efron’s masseter muscles started to grow, which is why he looks a little different nowadays.
He explained, “The masseters just grew. They just got really, really big.”
The actor stressed that the plastic surgery claims don’t bother him all that much.
He didn’t even know about the rumours until his own mother called him asking if he had surgery, but he swiftly reassured her that it was just because of his previous accident.
“If I valued what other people thought of me to the extent that they may think I do, I definitely wouldn’t be able to do this work.”
