Coronation Street boss has confirmed the return of a major character

He brings the drama wherever he goes.

And now Lewis Archer is set to make a grand return to Coronation Street this summer. Showrunner Kate Oates recently revealed that the con man, or the "king of cads", will be back after it was revealed he was working with 'psychic' Rosemary last month. He will reach out the Audrey after he comes back - and it begins to seem that he's got her under his spell once again. She told Metro:

"We have Lewis – king of cads! He is returning – I would have him for as long as Nigel Havers would want to stay as he works brilliantly with Sue Nicholls and I love that existing dynamic that he played both mother and daughter. "It’s perfect and I love everything that they have done with Sophie Thompson [who plays Rosemary] as none of them have overplayed it."

The soap show runner also admitted that she was initially anxious about the storyline involving Lewis and his clairvoyant accomplice, Rosemary Piper, targeting Audrey and Gail. She explained:

"I was anxious about that story as it’s about a medium talking about Richard Hillman. "If you are going to tell that truthfully, you have a woman whose husband was a serial killer, then you have a stranger coming in but you’re playing it for laughs – how can you expect Helen Worth to play that honestly? "But the writers were brilliant and were able to unfold it so it feels very truthful in the moment and we will just spin it in a bit of a different way after that. Sophie does everything with integrity – she was perfect for it."

Earlier this year, Lewis was revealed to be partnering with Gail to scam her out of another £3,000 - all because she wanted to get rid of the 'curse' that Richard Hillman had on the family. Roy eventually ended up figuring out their scheme and was able to perform a citizen's arrest on Lewis, leaving him in a locked car with the window slightly ajar. Which, of course, he managed to escape. He somehow managed to convince Audrey to let him go. And when Gail and Roy returned, she managed to come up with a story to explain his disappearance.
