Coronation Street reveals the real reason behind Jim McDonald’s return and it’s fairly unexpected

Keeley Ryan

Coronation Street has finally revealed the truth about Jim McDonald’s sudden return to Weatherfield – and it’s not what we expected.

The recently released criminal returned to Weatherfield last week, with a woman who he claimed was Katie, the long thought to be dead daughter he shared with ex-wife Liz.

But soap viewers were left sickened on Wednesday night when Jim’s – and Katie’s – true motives were revealed.

The pair were sitting in a car, talking about how they had convinced Liz that Katie was actually their daughter.

But it turns out that it’s all a scam, with ‘Katie’ – who is actually named Hannah – admitting nit was “harder than I thought” to actually meet Liz.

She turned to Jim and asked him how she thought it had gone.

He replied:

“I think you did really well.

“As a matter of fact you made your old dad proud so you did.”

Things took a turn when Hannah replied: “Hey, less of the old and certainly less of the dad – you’re neither,” before leaning in to kiss him.

Digital Spy report that Jim and Hannah are actually planning to clear out Liz’s bank account and rob Steve of his business, which would set them up for a cushy life.

But Charlie Lawson, the actor who plays Jim, confessed that his character is soon going to regret his actions – and “he’ll pay for it.”

He told the publication:

“If you keep watching, I think you’ll find that although Jim has gone along with it, he probably wasn’t the instigator of it. As soon as he sees Elizabeth, he realises that it’s a mistake and he doesn’t want her money.

“Jim just wants Liz back, but by that stage, he’s in too deep. It gives the character a sort of redemption, which is important. Jim’s never been a bad man, he just makes mistakes as every man does.

“He makes it very clear that he does feel guilty [about the plan disrespecting his late daughter], but unfortunately the damage is done.

“Jim has made a terrible mistake and he’s done a horrible thing – and he’ll pay for it.”
