Actor Dave Franco has made a name for himself in the odd villainous role, from 21 Jump Street to Now You See Me. However, viewers will see a different side to the actor as he steps into the role of Jonah in Regretting You.
In a new interview with Her’s Tríona Collins, the actor opened up about his decision to pivot to such a heartbreaking yet heartwarming project.
The actor revealed how beloved Irish series Normal People inspired him when preparing for this movie.
“It's different than really any role I've ever played. He's a very sweet, earnest, nice guy. And I think a lot of the roles that people know me for are much more complicated and potentially villainous. So it's nice to mix that up.”

“I feel like Jonah has a nice arc in terms of starting in a place where he really puts other people's feelings before his own and throughout the film gets to learn to stand up for himself and go after what he really wants and start to take more risks.”
“That was a big reference for this movie, at least for me. That's a couple who you see on this long journey, and it's very complicated, and there are peaks and valleys. I just love how subtle and vulnerable both of them were.”
In this powerful story of grief and longing, you don’t have to look far to see the influence of Paul Mescal’s emotive performance.
The thought of Hollywood stars perceiving the debs, GAA culture, and Connell’s chain is almost too much for our Irish brains to handle.
On the topic of Irish performances that moved them, actress Allison Williams went on to discuss the work of Martin McDonagh and his impact on her.
“Banshees of Inisherin. I love that movie so much. One of my favourite plays is The Cripple of Inishmaan. I saw a production of that in Dublin that I remember to this day.”
Dave agreed, adding, “Martin McDonagh. He's a God, right?”
