The first photos of Eddie Redmayne in his latest role as a transgender pioneer have been released.
The Oscar winning-actor plays Einar Wegener in The Danish Girl, a film set in the 1920s about how Wegener was persuaded by his artist wife Gerda to pose for her in women’s clothes after one of her models failed to show and went on to transition to become a woman, Lili Elbe.
The 33-year-old star has described the couple’s story as one of “authenticity, identity and love”, adding “the danger of surgery was so extreme then.It’s such a brave thing that Einar did”.
Redmayne was named Best Actor at the Academy Awards for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything.
