It’s never easy folks, but it can be done.

While we’re hard at work getting cleaned, prepped, dressed to the (festival) nines along with trying to pack, a little precision planning will be appreciated for later.

Camping brings with it mud, a weekend-lasting stink, sleepless nights and of course, the absolute craic. But let’s make sure we have more of the latter. Here are some key tips to finding the perfect camping spot this year.

Get there early

Obvious but fail-proof. Unless you’re one of the Early Entry ticket holders, your chances of nabbing the best spot for that tent is slashed considerably. Arrive as early as possible but be sure to bring yourself some lunch as no doubt you’ll be hungry.

Hill-top haven

Okay, so generally speaking Stradbally’s terrain is pretty levelled out, nonetheless it’s always wise to grab a spot that’s higher than the rest, even slightly as that way, you won’t have to worry about that tent going under should the heavy rains decide to show.

If you happen to be able to afford the extravagance that is boutique camping, why not go for it! You’ll sleep better, you’ll smell divine compared to the rest of us all thanks to the extravagant campsite’s showers and pristine toilets (as festival standards go).

Teeny Tiny Tent

Okay so perhaps not teeny tiny, but a small, light tent that you can easily throw on your back will enable you to speedily get inside the gates, scurry over to a beautiful patch of green and pinch the perfect weekend camping spot.

A mighty map

It’s always a good idea to have a peek at the map before you arrive on site and take into consideration you’ll be waddling home at a rather late hour from your favourite acts whatever stage they may be at. So, plonk your tent in an area that has the perfect mix of easy stage and food access while also being far away enough from the loos that you won’t be left pinching your poor nose.
