Grey’s Anatomy kicked off season 15 earlier this week.
And there’s already plenty of changes in store for the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial.

Among the changes? Jo isn’t going to Boston after all; and there’s a bunch of new doctors – including ‘Ortho God’ Dr. Atticus ‘Link’ Lincoln.
Oh, and Alex is now the (interim) Chief of Surgery.

But there was another, much more subtle, change that left eagle-eyed Grey’s fans completely heartbroken.
While he’s been long gone from the series, Derek Shepherd has still managed to stick around Grey Sloan – as Meredith has been wearing has been wearing his ferryboat scrub cap.
But this week’s episodes saw Meredith put the last memento of her late husband to rest when she scrubbed in wearing a purple cap, instead.
Many fans took this to mean that Meredith has opened herself to moving on with her life, especially after she told her patient – a matchmaker – that she wanted her help after she was accused of being married to her work.

Others felt that Grey’s could have eased into the change, arguing that Meredith didn’t have to give up even memento of Derek.
Especially since he was such a huge part of the series.

However, one fan did point out that Mere actually put away the scrub cap last season – so it’s not too surprising that she wasn’t wearing it this season.
