Warning: This post contains spoilers from last night’s episode.
It’s a been long wait, but finally Game of Thrones is back on our screens.
Yes, it seemed like everyone was watching the first episode of season seven last night, however, only some spotted this sneaky connection.
While there was a lot of chatter about Ed Sheeran’s cameo and that opening scene, there was another snippet from last night’s that got the attention of eagle-eyed viewers.
When season seven picks up, Sam Tarly, who is now training to be a maester at the Citadel, is continueing his quest to figure out a way of killing the white walkers.
However, spending the majority of his day cleaning up shit (yep, we gagged during that scene too) you can’t blame him for getting a little curious about what’s behind the locked gates in the library.
In conversation with archmaester Ebrose, played by Jim Broadbent, he discussed getting access to the restricted area – a conversation Jim Broadbent has had before with none other than Voldemort.
Yes, fans of Harry Potter were quick to point out the similarities between the GOT scene, with Horace Slughorn’s conversation with Tom Riddle’s in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince where a young Voldemort asks for access to the ‘restricted section’.
Sam literally just became Harry Potter… talking to Slughorn and trying to get into the restricted section of the library. #gameofthrones

Samwell: I can’t find any information on how to defeat the White Walkers, and I’ve looked everywhere
