ITV are on the hunt for single mums and dads for older Love Island spin off

Sarah McKenna Barry

It’s about damn time.

Fans have been calling for it for years, and now it’s officially in the works. That’s right, a Love Island style show geared towards older people is happening, and applications for cast members are open.

ITV’s The Romance Retreat will see single parents of adult children on their quest to find love while living together in a lavish villa.

Outlining exactly what they’re looking for in their casting notice, ITV said: “ITV1 are looking for vibrant single parents from across the UK who are in search of love, for a brand new dating show!

“This is the ONLY dating show where single parents can search for love, by spending time in a luxury retreat, where all the parents have been nominated by their grown up children.”

Not bad, eh?

Now, unfortunately the show is only open to singletons who are legal residents of the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, which more or less rules out the Irish contingent. Having said that, we’ll be tuning in in any case.

The closing date for applications is Friday 31 March, so if you’re able to apply, keep that in mind.

Little is known about The Romance Retreat right now, but one TV presenter who has thrown her hosting hat into the ring is Davina McCall.

Speaking on Stephen Bartlett’s The Diary of a CEO podcast, Davina begged ITV to let her host the series if it ever became an actual show.

“I’m literally begging ITV to let me present mid-life Love Island,” she said. “I could fill a villa in Love Island with the best backstories you have ever heard in your life.”

“They’ve lived a life! They’re widows, they’re people who have been through horrific divorces, they’re people who have split up with somebody and decided they want to try to go out with somebody [who is] the same sex as them.

“They’re interesting people! I’d watch that show.”
