Kevin the Carrot is back in Aldi’s new Christmas ad

Katy Brennan

Kevin takes centre stage for the sixth Christmas in a row.

Aldi has just released its brand new Christmas ad which sees everyone’s favourite carrot back in action.

In a Dickinson-style parody, ‘A Christmas Carrot’ introduces us to Ebanana Scrooge, a grouchy character who hates Christmas. He is whisked off on a magical adventure by Kevin the Carrot and reminded of all the festive joy.

A classical rendition of The Pogues’ Christmas ballad Fairytale of New York can be heard playing in the background as Kevin and Ebanana fly through the sky.

Viewers also meet a wide array of new fruit and vegetable characters – including Marcus Radishford, Tiny Tom, Peas and Goodwill, and Kevin’s carrot family.

The advert also highlights Aldi’s charity partner, Barnardos, who it teamed up with in October. The supermarket chain has set a goal of raising €1 million across a two-year partnership to help children in need.

This is the sixth year that Aldi’s Christmas ad campaign has featured Kevin the Carrot and he is now well and truly Aldi’s Christmas mascot.

Rita Kirwan, Marketing Director at Aldi Ireland, said:

“A Christmas Carrot by Charles Chickens’ is inspired by arguably the most famous classic Christmas tale of all time, our story centres around a banana named Ebanana Scrooge. Scarred from an early childhood experience when he was rejected by Santa, he doesn’t like Christmas. In fact, he hates it.

“So he sets out to spoil everyone else’s festive fun too. Will he succeed? Or will he finally discover his true Christmas spirit? This campaign takes us on his journey, capturing the seasonal sense of kindness, peace and goodwill.

“We hope the campaign will remind everyone of the true meaning of Christmas and how important it is to be kind over the festive period.”

To help Aldi and Barnardos reach their fundraising goal, text ‘KIDS’ to 50300 to donate €4 and help support a vulnerable child this Christmas.

The ad will premiere on TV at 7pm on Thursday 11 November, during Emmerdale, on Virgin Media One.
