We were all thinking the same thing (which was WTF?)
If you consider yourself a bit of a murderino, or you’re interested in true crime or psychology, you’ve probably tuned into the new Netflix docu-series about the notorious serial killer, Ted Bundy by now.
Confessions of a Serial Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes was released at the end of last month and the four-part programme centres on interviews that took place while Bundy was on death row.
There are lots of shocking revelations that come to light as the series unfolds, like how Bundy represented himself during his trial or when he later proposed to his girlfriend Carole Ann Boone during one day in court, but the most bizarre thing to watch was what the judge said to Bundy after he sentenced him to death for his heinous crimes.
The Miami trial’s judge, Edward D. Cowart of Dade County Circuit Court displayed kindness towards the killer saying:
“Take care of yourself, young man. I say that to you sincerely; take care of yourself, please. It’s a tragedy for this court to see such a total waste, I think, of humanity that I have experienced in this court.
“You’re a bright young man. You would have made a good lawyer and I would have loved to have you practice in front of me, but you went another way, partner. Take care of yourself. I don’t feel any animosity toward you. I want you to know that. Once again, take care of yourself.”
Sorry… what now?!
The judge in Ted Bundy tapes: (To Ted) I don’t feel any animosity toward you. I want you to know that.”

It’s all we could talk about in the office after watching it and it seems like we weren’t the only ones who were baffled, judging from the reaction on Twitter:
God the Ted Bundy tapes were so fucked up…everybody was so easily manipulated and people admired him because was “hot” and “charming” holy shit…even the judge complimented him after sentencing him to the DEATH PENALTY…fucking crazy

anyone else got really uncomfortable watching the ted bundy tapes and seeing everyone in the court laugh at ted bundy’s jokes and having the judge say he held no animosity towards him???! pic.twitter.com/CK0VyXzFUS

the thing that struck me most about the Ted Bundy tapes is that when he was on trial for murdering women the judge and others in the courtroom were making jokes with him? The lack of respect for the girls and their families is disgusting

to anyone who doesn’t believe in white privilege or thinks it’s overstated, watch the Ted Bundy tapes where a judge sentencing a man convicted of raping and murdering almost 40 women say “there is no animosity here, you would have made a great lawyer you just took the wrong path”

Indeed, everyone seemed to think it was entirely inappropriate.
