Public to decide who couples up with who on Love Island this year

A pretty major twist, to be fair.

This year’s Love Island will open with a huge twist as viewers will be given the power to decide who gets to couple up with who.

The shake-up is a big change from how the show normally runs. Typically, the boys present themselves to the girls, and the girls step forward if they fancy them. It’s then up to the boys to decide which girl to couple up with, and, at the next recoupling, the cards turn and the girls make their decision.

This year, however, the dating show will run a little differently, at least for the first coupling.

On Twitter, the official Love Island account revealed that fans will get to have their say over who pairs up with who ahead of the first episode.

“For the first time ever, you get to have your say on who couples up on Day 1!” the tweet reads.

Fans are then encouraged to head over to the show’s app to play matchmaker and vote on who should couple up with who. Voting will close tomorrow at 9am.

However, one contestant, Davide Sanclimenti, is not included in the polls, though it’s not currently clear why.

In a follow-up tweet, Love Island said that we will learn on Monday night’s episode why Davide isn’t included in the voting.

Earlier this week, Love Island revealed the 11 brand new contestants heading into the villa this summer.

They are Paige Thorne, Dami Hope, Indiyah Polack, Liam Lewellyn, Tasha Gouri, Davide Sanclimenti, Gemma Owen, Ikenna Ekwonna, Andrew LaPage, Amber Beckford and Luca Bish.

One contestant we’ll definitely be keeping our fingers crossed for is Irish lad Dami Hope, who hails from Dublin. Explaining why he chose to go on Love Island, he said: “This year I was kind of being more open to new things and I think actually that’s why I put myself out there to get some new experiences. Love Island is a different experience, I will be talking to different girls, it might not go well with some, might go well with others, so it’s a fun experience.”

Love Island returns to our screens on June 6th on Virgin Media Two.
