Riverdale fans left devastated by the final minutes of the musical episode

It didn’t turn out how anyone expected.

Riverdale’s hotly anticipated musical episode has finally aired…and it left fans devastated.

The high school students were putting on a production of Carrie: The Musical, and it looked like things were going so smoothly.

But the peace never lasts too long in Riverdale, so really, it was only a matter of time until things changed.

One of the students of Riverdale High met a grisly end in the final moments of the musical – shocking fans, and audience members, alike.

Spoilers follow after this gif.

Unless you’re all caught up on the episodes, proceed at your own risk.

We mean it.

…okay, don’t say we didn’t warn you.

We all knew, at this point, that the Black Hood was going to be returning for the final few episodes – we just didn’t quite expect it to be so soon.

And after all of the build up towards the opening night of Carrie: The Musical, things take a turn when Alice Cooper finishes up her opening number.

Urging Carrie, who at this point in the episode is being played by Midge, to come out, Alice turns to see the teen’s body brutally pinned to the wall – and a chilling message from someone claiming to be the Black Hood.

It read:

“I am back from the dead. All those who escaped me before will die. BH.”

While Midge escaped the Black Hood once already this season, it looks like she wasn’t so lucky this time around – and fans were so disappointed.

Since basically the whole town was in the audience, the Black Hood could be just about anyone in Riverdale – and fans were only happy to throw out their own suggestions.

While we were admittedly not entirely convinced that it was the Black Hood (seriously, hasn’t this town been through enough?!), showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa recently teased the villain’s return.

He told Entertainment Weekly:

“The Black Hood coming back pushes us into the last four episodes, where the threat is immediate.

“It brings us full circle not just to the beginning of season two but really to season one.

“The musical is pretty high stakes but for the four episodes after it, it’s kind of like your foot is on the accelerator and things are happening so fast.

“The Black Hood is back and angry.”
