*Spoiler alert for season one of Kin*

Great news for fans of RTÉ’s Kin, as the crime series has been officially renewed for another season.

The drama follows the criminal enterprises of the Kinsella family, and it attracted a huge viewership when it aired on Irish screens last year.

As well as gripping storylines, the series was packed full of Irish talent, including Aidan Gillen, Clare Dunne, Ciarán Hinds and Charlie Cox.

Now, viewers waiting for news regarding a second season can breathe a sigh of relief as a spokesperson for RTÉ assured audiences that a second series of Kin is on the way.

In a statement, they said that they are “delighted to announce series two of the gripping gangland drama Kin”.

They added: “Series two of Kin, which will air on RTÉ  One and RTÉ  Player, will go into production this summer and will again see Irish talent on a global stage with AMC+ picking it up for another season.”

Dermont Horan, who is the director of acquisitions and co-productions for RTÉ, said: “The first series was enjoyed in huge numbers across RTÉ on both television and RTÉ Player as well as in North America and Scandinavia.

“We’ve worked with our international partners to make sure we could answer the call of Irish audiences to deliver another series and to ensure that Irish talent and quality Irish drama is showcased on the world stage”.

In the tense final season of Kin, we witnessed the killing of Eamonn (Hinds), who was the head of the Kinsella’s rival gang, the Cunninghams.

The second season is expected to pick up where we left off, as the families are forced to come to terms with Eamonn’s death, and the huge complications it poses.
