Man arrested after teenage girl attacked while out walking in Fermoy

Gardaí are currently investigating after a teenage girl was attacked in Fermoy, Co. Cork.

It is understood that the girl was assaulted by two men while out walking alone.

The alleged incident happened on Monday afternoon near Chapel Square, close to the centre of Fermoy town.

Two other youths heard the girl’s calls for help and intervened before the attackers fled on foot.

She was taken to Cork hospital and treated for injuries. She is said to be understandably shocked and traumatised.

One of the young men who came to her rescue also suffered minor injuries.

Gardaí closed off the area and began examine CCTV footage of the alleged incident as part of their investigation.

A man in his 30s has since been arrested for questioning, RTE reports.

It is understood that he is not known to the victim and Gardai believe this was a random attack.
