Netflix’s The Witcher drops in December and the full-on fantasy is gearing up to prove one of the month’s best launches.
There are a few weeks to go until the new series arrives on Netflix but if the first reactions are anything to go by, you’ll want to make time for it during the Christmas break.
Henry Cavill takes centre stage as Geralt Riviera, a monster hunter or “witcher”, with the fight scenes getting major praise from early reviewers.
As a child, Geralt was bestowed with supernatural powers enabling him to fight “monsters” and the series sees him join forces with a princess and a sorcerer in a world known as The Continent.
“Geralt struggles to find his place in a world in which people often prove more wicked than beasts” – it sounds completely bizarre, utterly bonkers and more than likely, a series we’ll be completely hooked on.
The show is based on the books by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski and although full reviews are embargoed until the show is released on December 20, critics have been sharing a couple of snippets on Twitter.
Some have even compared the battle scenes to Game of Thrones and say that The Witcher comes out on top, a controversial statement for GOT’s many fans.
Can’t wait for #TheWitcher critics are saying it’s way better then #GoT

Critics are all suitably impressed thus far, as you’ll see below and we look forward to finding out more when it drops on the streaming site later this month.
Yet another must-watch to add to the ever-growing Netflix list.
Some of the action and sword work choreography for The Witcher is some of the best I can recall for a sword and sorcery/fantasy series of this type in years. #TheWitcherNetflix #TheWitcher #Netflix pic.twitter.com/AG2Qnx7x3r

After seeing reviews of the Witcher screeners I’m very excited but like some reviewers are said there’s going to be people moaning because it isn’t in keeping with games and sometimes does things different from the books seeing as it is an ADAPTATION. still very excited

Watching the screeners for @witchernetflix. I’ll admit, as a huge fan of the books, I was a little worried, but @LHissrich has done a masterful job telling this story. It also helps that the cast is amazing! And Henry Cavill, just … wow. #TheWitcher pic.twitter.com/xdFnYtRN4j

So… I’ve never really been thirsty for Henry Cavill. I mean, I get he’s handsome but just haven’t.
I’ve seen a screener of the first episode of #TheWitcher and, um, I think I’m pregnant. pic.twitter.com/1dIZ5egHT6
