There’s a eerie new theory about the identity of Riverdale’s Black Hood

Keeley Ryan

This would be huge.

Riverdale has been ramping up the drama as fans are heading into the final few episodes of season two.

Including the possible-but-we’re-hoping-a-fakeout ‘real’ reveal of the Black Hood last week.

But there’s a new theory about Betty’s brother doing the rounds – and it’s kind of blowing our minds.

Possible spoilers for Riverdale lie ahead.

Okay, so, if you’re all caught up on Riverdale (which, if you’ve gotten to this point, we’d hope you are), then you know about the fact that Chic isn’t actually Betty’s brother.

And that he may have actually killed her real brother, Charles.

We say may because we’re not totally convinced of Chic’s ‘confession’ to Charles’ murder – mostly since, at that point, it looked like he wanted to hurt Betty and Alice more than anything else.

Alice was definitely devastated over the prospect of her son (with Betty’s boyfriend’s dad, FP) being dead.

But…y’know, what if he wasn’t?

There’s a mysterious character who has been cropping up over the last almost-two-seasons and, each time, it’s been incredibly shady.

Ben, played by Moses Theissen, was last seen walking out of the Cooper household after a ‘job interview’ with Chic.

Before that? He was Miss Grundy’s newest protégé/boy toy (which makes him the last person to have seen her alive, too).

And way, way, back, Ben made his debut at the Twilight Drive-In – before it was sold off to the Lodges.

He could definitely be a random Riverdale resident who just happens to be in some awkward/fairly bad places at some fairly bad times.

But, according to Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, there’s more to Ben than meets the eye.

He told ET’s Sweetwater Secrets:

“I can tell you that he is going to continue popping up.

“We feel like every time he pops up, he’s an Easter egg for people because some people notice him and some people don’t.

“There is a resonance as to why he keeps popping up, but stay tuned. There will be more sightings.”

Social media users are currently fairly convinced that Charles is, in fact, Ben – which would mean he’s not only alive, but hiding in plain sight.

Some event think that Charles/Ben could be the one who is actually behind the Black Hood – which would also explain why he was eerily obsessed with Betty.

There’s one problem, though. Charles and Ben don’t actually look alike.

Unless the photo that Betty and Jughead got from the Sisters of Quiet Mercy was reeeeally old/of a super young Charles, it’s more than likely that Ben will have another part to play.

We’re still hopeful Chic was lying, though.
