Downton Abbey will reportedly end this year after the show’s sixth series. According to The Irish Mirror, writer Julian Fellowes will put an end to the hit show to pursue a new project in America. The reports states that stars of the show are looking elsewhere for roles. “It’s an open secret that Downton is ending this year,” a source revealed. “Some of the actors are keen to let it be known they will be available for work after the summer. Some are interested in the US, where Downton is as popular as it is in the UK.” Season six is due to hit our screen in September of this year. ITV have yet to confirm the news, though it is rumoured that bosses are already looking for a replacement show to fill the Sunday night slot. “They are looking for something which is long-running and ambitious and which could appeal to the mass audience in the way that Downton has done.”
