As someone who has sustained a broken leg whilst drunk, I can confirm that alcohol numbs the pain.
Luckily when Maynooth student Alysun Carroll had a fall last night, her friend Lauryn was on hand with some, eh, questionable first aid skills.
Alysun’s mother Maura sent us on the screenshots and explained:
“My daughter fell the other night (high heels, last day of Uni before the summer holidays, alcohol and climbing fences do not mix).
She broke her foot in two places, not very nice but her friends were as inebriated as her and were trying to help her. The searches that one of them did on her phone to google were so funny,” she says.
Lauryn shared the screenshots on Facebook and revealed her first response was to google “how to ring ambulance Ireland Maynooth.” Further comical searches include “ambulance Maynooth please” and then simply “ankle broken Maynooth.”
Lauryn recalls on Facebook “I can distinctly remember telling people she would be OK because I'm really good at googling stuff.”
Luckily Alysun is doing okay now and the initial injury was aptly treated in the most student way imaginable.
“She woke up with a frozen chicken breast on her foot as her mates were moving out of their house and had nothing frozen in the freezer,” says Maura.
Get well soon Alysun. Lauryn, it’s 999 for future reference.
