Kate Garraway forced to close Derek’s company with €200k debt

Ellen Fitzpatrick

So sad.

Kate Garraway has been forced to make the heartbreaking decision to close her husband Derek’s company as it has racked up over €200,000 in debt after his Covid diagnosis.

When Derek caught Covid in the early days of the pandemic, he was put into an induced coma by doctors as Kate revealed he would die if left unattended for more than three days.

Derek spent over a year in hospital before returning to his family home in London with Kate and their two children, Darcey and Billy, in April last year.

Derek’s once successful psychotherapy company, Astra Aspera Ltd, now owes €216,000, including €147,000 in taxes and a liquidator has been appointed to break up the firms assets.

Kate was appointed director of the company last year after Derek remained in hospital and due to his long Covid, he now needs 24 hour care and cannot work anymore.

A source revealed to MailOnline that Kate is “sad” about the company coming to an end but noted that Derek has “no prospects” of returning to work soon.

The business was set up in 2011 and was successful for the following decade before he caught Covid.

Kate is said to have initially intended to save the company but soon discovered that there was no way to bring it back to what it was.

In Kate’s second documentary, Caring for Derek, she brought viewers through an intimate looking into how the Covid is still impacting his life.

Kate was praised for her “patience and strength” throughout her journey with Derek over the last two years, as she openly spoke about her husband’s condition and how it affects her family.

She also revealed earlier this year that she and Derek travelled to Mexico for a medical assessment by a doctor who may be able to help reverse the effects Covid has had on his body.

He is heading back for a month long stay this month to allow doctors to monitor his brain, liver and lungs.

Speaking to Piers Morgan on Life Stories, she explained: “It’s devastated him. From the top of his head to the tip of his toe. His digestive system, his liver, his kidneys, his heart, his nervous system. We’re pretty sure that the inflammation did pass through the brain.”
