Love Island’s Sam Bird reveals the real reason he split up from Georgia Steel

Keeley Ryan

“I told her ‘you aren’t loyal’ and she still tried to claim she was.”

Love Island’s Sam Bird has given his first interview after his split from Georgia Steel, admitting that “she’s not the person I thought she was”.

The 25-year-ol confirmed to his social media followers that the pair had split “for reasons I can’t bring myself to comment on at the moment.

Georgia later released a statement of her own, saying that she will “always care about him” – and, much like Sam’s statement, she left out any further details of the split.

There has since been a lot of back-and-forth as to the reason behind their decision to call it quits, including allegations that Georgia had cheated on Sam with her manager and PA, Stevie Lux.

Georgia denied this, as did Sam – although he later confirmed that the reason behind the split “involves her ex.”

Sam has now given his first interview about the split and how he feels his ex girlfriend has “been living a double life.”

He told The Sun that his suspicions were raised earlier this week after Georgia did not return from a PA – and, once he had the chance, he looked through her phone.

Sam said that the had been left “heartbroken” after seeing a WhatsApp chat between Georgia and one of her closest friends, which said that she had stayed the night at an ex-boyfriend’s house.

He recalled how the chat said that it wasn’t the first time – and claimed that he also found a photo Georgia sent to a friend of herself and her ex in bed, wearing the same earrings and makeup from her PA.

Sam told The Sun that he had a “gut feeling” something was wrong after the ITV Gala on Monday.

He said:

“Georgia told me she stayed with a friend after being at a PA, she said she came home and then went back out to a friend’s but that didn’t seem plausible.

“I looked at her phone and found messages she sent to her mates and one of them had a selfie of her in bed with her ex and she put the word ‘oops’ and joked about it and I thought that’s not right.

“My gut feeling was found to be true. She’s not the person I thought she was.”

Earlier today, Georgia claimed the the messages Sam had seen were “banter I had between me and my best mate” – although her now-ex boyfriend claims that this wasn’t the case.

He said:

“I saw these messages late at night while she was asleep and I screenshot them so she couldn’t lie about it. I wanted proof so she couldn’t get out of it.

“I feel heartbroken; the last three months have been a total lie.

“I was so shocked she would do that to me. She’s been living a double life. I’ve never been cheated on before.

“I was in love with her. She doesn’t understand cheating isn’t just doing something physical, it is being disloyal to your boyfriend – taking a selfie with your ex in bed is cheating, sending inappropriate messages is cheating.

“When a person has to say they’re loyal that many times – if that’s your trait and you want to emphasise that then that’s clearly something you don’t have. It is laughable.

“I told her ‘you aren’t loyal’ and she still tried to claim she was but I kept saying you’ve cheated, cheating is cheating.”

The interview comes as Georgia released a lengthy statement about the end of their relationship, insisting that “no third party” was involved.

She confirmed that she had stayed the night at her ex-boyfriend’s house – although she says that she stayed in a spare room – and said that she and Sam had “been constantly arguing”.

She ended the statement by saying:

“Sam now wants to believe that I did cheat on him but in reality the relationship ended due to the fact that I fell out of love.

“He was a lovely boyfriend and I did really love him but moving in so soon and the public pressure did make me feel very trapped. I gave our relationship everything as I really did want it to work and I was loyal throughout.

“But you can’t help your feelings.

“I’m stubborn and wanted to prove the public wrong about me and him but the reality is it just didn’t work.

“I really do hope he finds the girl for him as he has so much to give and does deserve to find love. And I really hope I find the man for me too in the future.”
