Fans were left baffled after Sam walked off stage after just four songs.

Sam Smith’s fans are demanding answers after they walked off the AO Arena in Manchester after just four songs.

They also teased a surprise Madonna collaboration for the concert but fans were left disappointed and confused as the gig abruptly came to an end instead.

Sam took to Instagram and posted a video of both singers saying their names alluding to Madonna making an appearance at one of their concerts.

To add to the speculation, Sam later Tweeted: “Manchester, we’ve got a surprise for you this evening. ‘Unholy’ won’t be the last song.”

Unsurprisingly, fans were ecstatic but instead of experiencing one of the best performances of their lives, they were left utterly disappointed.

The ‘Not The Only One’ singer explained that they had been recovering from a virus the past couple of weeks and felt extremely unwell onstage.

Despite feeling fine during soundcheck, Sam left thousands of fans in the dark and upset.

They wrote on their Instagram: “During my third song, I noticed something wrong with my voice.

“I prayed it was just my voice waking up for the show but into the fourth song I could feel something was really wrong. I came off stage and have tried everything to get my voice back in gear but it won’t.

“I’m honestly heartbroken I couldn’t finish the show tonight for you all. I love you all. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”

Many of the artist’s fans were very supportive and wished them well wishes.

Others weren’t at all impressed and took to social media to voice their frustrations.

One fan wrote: “The surprise is there is no surprise and you’ve all gotta go home early.”

One TikToker posted a video updating people on what exactly went down at the event the night before.

She explained that Sam Smith wrote a new song with Madonna and planned to sing it on stage with her at the end of the gig.

However, they felt sick and had a “sore throat” so that performance didn’t go to plan.

Sam also cancelled the remaining dates of his UK tour.

They wrote on their Instagram: “Due to vocal issues during last night’s Manchester performance, regrettably we will be cancelling the rescheduled Birmingham and Glasgow Sam Smith shows.

“Refunds will be available at the point of purchase for all three dates; Manchester, Birmingham, and Glasgow.”
