Penn Badgley hopes You ends after season 5

Kat O'Connor

Is it time to say goodbye to Joe Goldberg?

You star Penn Badgley hopes the hit series will end after season 5.

The Gossip Girl alum plays murderer Joe Goldberg on the hit Netflix series, which has become one of Netflix’s biggest shows.

Despite the show’s success, Badgley said he hopes Joe gets what’s coming to him in the next season.

He told IndieWire: “It feels to me like we need to do another season. It feels to me like Joe needs to get what’s coming to him, and now he has further to fall because he has all this power and wealth.

“But of course, that’s not up to me. I don’t know where it’s going,” he said.

The actor said he would love the show to end on a high rather than to drag it out.

“But to me, with this concept and with this character, we always wanted to be responsible and it’s not just the kind of thing we can let keep going because it’s doing well.”

He also said, “I know the creators of the show always had this next season in mind as its last.”

However, Netflix has not yet confirmed if the show will return for a fifth season, but the chances are pretty high after season 4’s success.

“We definitely could follow Joe for several more seasons”

The show’s co-creator Sera Gamble previously told The Hollywood Reporter that You could go on for years.

“I am not scared at all of saying that we definitely could follow Joe for several more seasons.”

As much as we enjoy the show, wouldn’t it be best to end it on a high? Penn is right in saying dragging it out would only taint the show.

Ending You after season 5 seems like the best idea, but who knows what Netflix will decide? We’ll just have to wait and see.
